Speculative Re-Memory - A Sonic Love Letter
Speculative Re-Memory is an audio-focused archive project based at Alice Billing House in Stratford and surrounding area that delves into the transformative practice of utilising personal memories of a local area as an organic conduit for reimagined care-centred futures.
Drawing inspiration from community-focused forms of storytelling practices, such as somatic sharing circles and community-centered conversations facilitated by Sange (Sandra) Falase; this exploratory sound piece serves as a culmination of this work.
The pieces sit against a backdrop of sound compositions by Kayode Gomez that ground the work from the ebullient sonic flourishes of a grime beat piercing through unapologetically as locals recount their favourite memories of Newham to the rising choral crescendos that add a refrain of hope as Marilyn Fontaine reflects on a more intersectional and inclusive future for Newham.

About Sandra Falase
Sange (Sandra) Falase is an interdisciplinary artist, researcher and writer based in London with substantial experience in designing both digital and physical spaces, research, writing and programming, particularly within live arts venues, film, TV and galleries. They have a keen interest in the intersection of spatial design with digital artistic processes demonstrating this by frequently incorporating experimental video, illustration, and graphic design into their work.
They gravitate towards methods of creation with intentions to reject non-inclusive ideologies. To date, they have experimented with design techniques that explore multisensory discovery, and resonate with creating work that considers restorative design and sustainable ecology at its core.
By prioritising intentionality through methods of research that centre anticolonial and black feminist frameworks and methodologies that resist hierarchical and elitist ideologies, they aim to expand their knowledge of technological processes that holistically inform their artistic practice.
Lastly, they relish in creating work that is simultaneously imaginative, unapologetic, and disruptive yet responsive.
The Speculative ReMemory project was led by artist, writer and programme facilitator, Sandra Falase, as part of a year-long engagement programme in 2024 at Alice Billing House, supported by the Creative Land Trust and Heritage Lottery Fund.
